Now that "summer" is here (the school year is over, anyway!) I am hopefully going to make the time to write on a more regular basis. I intend this to provide a communication tool for the "fam"... meaning that for now, this website will be available to family members.
I've loved having Brian's blog to read, and I regularly check it and love knowing about what is going on in their lives. I also have appreciated reading the things that Brin and Carl have been writing about. I have often thought of things I'd like to communicate to you all, but have not taken the time to write them down. I hope to rectify that this summer.
This morning was the annual choir cantata at church. For the second year in a row, I designed and operated the PowerPoint for it. Last year there were about 200 slides - this year less than half that. Today's cantata included three video "testimonies" by people in our church.
The first was a couple who lost their home to a fire six years ago. Barb talked about the great sense of peace God gave her that day, even as they watched their house collapse in flames. The next morning Lee went to the house, and he saw, in the midst of the charred remains of the house, his Bible - lying on the ground, and open to the Psalms - and NOT sooty and black, but white! It was open to a Psalm where David was pleading with God to come and help him in his time of need.
The second testimony was from a young couple whose 5 month old son Jared got an ear infection, and within one day died. The infection became bacterial, and developed into spinal menigitis. After being air-flighted to Milwaukee, the doctors told them that there was NO hope of recovery. The father, while praying for his little boy, had a vision of a hand reaching down from above and taking his son's hand, and they both then went up. God was telling him that it was all right - his son was with Him. They were given the option to take him off life-support, because there was no longer any brain activity. They spoke about how their prayer that Jared be all right was answered - just not the way they wanted. He WAS and IS all right - but he's all right with God.
The third was from a man who was an alcoholic but has been sober now for 24 years. He comes to Highland because we teach the Word of God, and he wants to know God and grow in his relationship with Him. John started going to AA after a friend suggested it. It was there that he learned about relying on God. 24 years ago John thought he knew God, but he did not think that God liked him, or loved him. Now he knows God better because he knows God's Word and has believed Him and has received His love.
It was very powerful.
Dad has a job interview this Wednesday, and he has about 4-5 other jobs he's going to be looking into as well. Please pray that God will direct and place Dad in just the right place at the right time.
He was down visiting Grandpa this week, and we're going down together Friday (and plan to stay until the following Wednesday - sorry we won't be going to the Van Dyke cabin, Brian).
Looks like Renee has sold her house! She and Grandpa are looking into building a house out on the old "home" place!! But for now she'll move in with Grandpa down in Purdy Valley. It's sure to be a busy summer for her. I hear she's already started packing.
